Fans are really taken by the new show “Southern Charm” on Bravo. Thomas Ravenel is one of the prominent Charleston folks fearured in the show, and on March 19 he opened up a bit about his family on Twitter and fans were definitely intrigued. What did he have to share?
Viewers of the show have seen Thomas, nicknamed “T-Rav” by some though he doesn't seem to embrace the nickname all that much himself, as he turns on the charm but also pushes people's buttons. “Southern Charm” viewers have seen that he has some dicey experiences in his past, and he's definitely got some interesting challenges ahead of him this season. At the same time, it seems he has a heart for charity and especially for kids with special needs.
Ravenel recently tweeted about doing a charity event where he helped raise quite a bit of money for kids with disabilities. When a follower called him out a bit about how he worded things, he seem to sincerely want some insight on what he could have done differently. He mentioned that he has a brother who has Down syndrome.
The issue mentioned by the follower was that he mentioned "disabled kids" whereasa more sensitive way of wording that these days would be something like “kids with disabilities,” using “people first” phrasing. Many parents of special needs kids would certainly appreciate his learning to make that type of distinction, though it is not something that everybody has shifted to universally. Thomas sincerely seemed to want to know what she felt he should have said instead.
When another follower asked if it was true that his brother has Down syndrome, he confirmed that that was indeed true. This seems to just show another side of the “Southern Charm” reality TV star and politician that fans didn't necessarily see prior to this.
There is no question that Thomas Ravenel is a pretty complex guy. Is he also about to become a father? That's the buzz and fans will find out soon enough. Tune in to to new episodes of “Southern Charm” every Monday night on Bravo.
