Two Obama supporters, Tony Garcia, 63, and Raul Sorando, 31, who tried to get into McCain's "Joe the Plumber" Rally in Miami wearing Obama T-Shirts found themselves in what the fivethirtyeight.com reporters called "a near street-riot" when the rally ended and the McCain/Palin supporters began leaving the event and passing the two men on the street.
Acccording to the report by Sean Quinn of the electoral projection website Fivethirtyeight.com, the two Cuban-American Obama supporters were quickly surrounded by the McCain/Palin crowd and tensions were so high that police quickly ushered the two men away before anything besides words could be flung. When the reporter caught up with the two Obama supporters down the road away from the crowd they described the suituation.
"People were screaming 'Terrorist!' 'Communist!' 'Socialist!'" Sorando said, adding "I had a guy tell me he was gonna kill me."
So what were the two pro-Obama hispanic men doing to provoke such ugliness from the McCain supporters?
"We were just chanting 'Obama!' and holding our signs. That was it. And the crowd suddenly got crazy."
Being from Miami originally, and knowing the type of people who have been attending McCain/Palin rallies lately, it's not too surprising to hear of this happening. That it actually didn't end in violence is probably a testament to the good work of the MDPD officers there to keep the peace.
