'Dance Moms' Star Kelly Hyland Charged With Assault on Coach Abby Lee Miller

New allegations are emerging regarding the big “Dance Moms” fight between Kelly Hyland and Abby Lee Miller. Fans saw some of it play out in recent episodes, but there are police reports and lawsuits in the mix now, and it seems things may have been uglier behind-the-scenes than what viewers saw. Courthouse News Service shared some new-to-viewers details on Feb. 20.

Kelly Hyland faces charges over the “Dance Moms” incident with Abby Lee Miller, but she's also filed a lawsuit against Miller and the show. The filing is against Miller and the production company for “Dance Moms,” Collins Avenue Entertainment. She alleges that the show emotionally abuses children and violates child labor laws, and she says the only reason she didn't pull her daughters from the show earlier is that Abby threatened legal action if she did.

Hyland asserts that there was a time that Abby threw a chair at Paige, and that the bullying impacted Paige so much her school work suffered. Kelly says the producers “went out of their way to foster conflict” between Abby and the girls, rather than protect the dancers.

As for the specific incident viewers recently saw on “Dance Moms,” Hyland says that when Miller lunged at her, gnashing her teeth, Kelly felt she was either going to be bitten or fall over as there was nowhere for her to go. She says that out of self-defense she slapped Abby and puller her head to the side so she wouldn't get bitten. Viewers know from there Abby called police.

Hyland maintains that she was prepared to stay at the scene to talk with authorities, but producers encouraged her to leave with her daughters. Kelly now believes that the producers did this knowing there would likely be a warrant issued for Kelly's arrest, thus drumming up more drama for the show. Later when both Hyland and Miller were at court over the incident, with Lifetime and TMZ cameras present, Kelly says she was heckled by Miller.

Another bone of contention in the lawsuit relates to Abby Lee Miller's recent appearance on “The View.” Miller insinuated that Kelly Hyland is an unfit mother and an alcoholic, and she said the injuries from the altercation were worse than viewers saw. Hyland alleges that the “Dance Moms” producers have tried to incite public confrontations between the two women.

Kelly Hyland and her daughters Paige and Brooke will be on Tuesday's “Dance Moms,” but she has indicated that is their last. She says in the lawsuit that she hasn't been paid as promised in the contract, and she goes on to complain about dances and outfits the girls were pushed to utilize on the show. Kelly Hyland's “Dance Moms” lawsuit seeks $5 million for breach of contract, defamation, assault and other counts. Brooke and Paige are parties to the complaint.

How will Kelly Hyland's lawsuit affect the show and Abby Lee Miller? Who will come out ahead on this one? Some would say that at this point, there really are no winners. Tune in to “Dance Moms” on Tuesday, Feb. 25 to see what may be Kelly, Brooke and Paige's last appearance on the show, barring future court footage. Whose side are you on with this “Dance Moms” fight: Kelly Hyland's or Abby Lee Miller's?
