For the first time in the history of Sports Illustrated, a model has been sent to space for a bikini shoot, and it’s none other than the beautiful.
Upton has once again surprised her fans with this literally “out of the world” shoot as she models in new bikini and one-piece fashions in weightlessness for Sports Illustrated's 2014 Swimsuit Issue that hit the newsstands on Feb. 18.
With her hair stylist, make-up artist, photographers, videographers and editors all on board a sexy and smiling Upton floated in a tiny gold-bikini with her blond locks flying both sides and perfectly managing to keep her signature curves covered in the skimpy top. Upton’s remarkable photo-shoot marks the 50th anniversary for the magazine and while she didn’t get the cover of Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition the back-cover belonged to her as she made history.
"The ZERO-G experience was really exhilarating for everyone involved," MJ Day, editor of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, said in a statement, according to a report by Yahoo News. "We have been almost everywhere in the past 50 years with SI Swimsuit, but we have never done anything like this. It was certainly the most out-of-the-box shoot. Once again, Kate surprised us all with how she handled modeling in weightlessness."
The SI team had been working on the weightlessness shoot for four years before it was finally carried out on March 18, 2013.
"So yeah, this happened," Sports Illustrated representatives posted on Twitter from the @SI_Swimsuit profile today.
In one picture, the assistants throw water-droplets her way as Upton floated around them with a smile.
Upton’s weightlessness experience was not stimulated rather it took place on specially modified Boeing-727, known as G-FORCE ONE. Defying gravity, the golden-clad Upton bounced and soared through the plane as it performed a series of 17 parabolas, 13 zero gravity and four replicating gravity moves, so the model could pose for the cameras.
While Upton has yet to make a comment on her shoot, she did congratulate this year’s swimsuit cover girls, Chrissy Teigen, Nina Agdal and Lily Aldridge, who are posing topless in the eye-popping image. Though the three beauties dethroned Upton from the front cover after Upton claimed her right for two consecutive years, the bomb-shell graced the back-cover for the issue in which she dons a seductive pink bikini that shows plenty of cleavage as she sits in the surf of the Cook Islands.
