In support to Michael Christian Martinez’s Men’s Skating bid at Sochi Games, I am sure many of us at home in dead of night and as early as 1:30 AM watch him performed.
He unleashed his skating prowess with the soul searching and stirring tone of “A Time for Us” through which he really caught the attentions of spectators worldwide to focus to the Philippines through him in the skating rink at the Olympic Games.
Yes, for about three minutes or longer, the whole world focused on Michael while delivering his Olympic piece. Silence prevailed which seemed to suggest the Filipino skater has a great edge over his opponents.
At the last note of “A time for us,” the male emcee or announcer broke the resounding silence saying “Fantastic,” as Michael is finished with his piece.
It is really fantastic for Michael being the lone Filipino competitor in this year’s Olympic Games. Probably, the announcer meant by fantastic was that “Michael performed well” as the world witnessed him.
As seated with his coach to rest, he simply displayed his white sweater with humble mark “Philippines.” In profound humility and meekness, Michael acknowledged the roaring applause by merely waving hands and punctuated with “thumbs up sign.”
It’s too early to ask how well he performed tonight, but being there for country and people Michael is surely a winner in his own right. We are proud of you and keep on with the competition there at the Sochi Games.
