A search is ongoing for Texas woman Melissa Sowders, 26, who is reportedly pregnant. She was last seen by her boyfriend Jason Sanford, who claims that she dropped him off at work and then went to a McDonald's Restaurant to meet her estranged husband and her daughter (the former husband has custody of their kids). He claims that she called and said she was at McDonald's but after that contact ceased and she hasn't been or heard from since.
Jason Sanford seems immediately convinced that Melissa won't be coming home alive. He has appeared to defeat himself to the idea that she is dead. Why? In many missing persons cases there is a level of hope among close loved ones that usually persists until the very moment that remains are found -- sometimes even in the face of damning proof. Yet, he seems to already be convinced that she is dead. This is unsettling to me.
On the other hand, there is the estranged husband who isn't being mentioned much in the media. Who is he? Does he have a reason to harm the missing woman? Are there any allegations of abuse against the estranged husband, or has he ever threatened her? This case just reeks of suspicion, but it's indeed a mystery. Melissa Sowders might very well be dead like Jason Sanford claims to fear, but by whose hands and when will she be found?
