Severely mentally ill teen Justina Pelletier is still in the custody of DCF and Boston Children's Hospital -- which is likely where she is the safest if you believe the allegations against her parents. Just as I had suspected in previous posts about this case, the parents of this teenager are accused of habitually ignoring her mental health needs. They're accused of being combative with medical professionals, and are accused of medically mistreating their daughter. While the crazed "mommy" culture (mostly coming from online blogs and interest group message boards) are still insistent that Justina has been "kidnapped," it's becoming more and more apparent that the opposite has taken place: She's been rescued from her parents.
Sometimes moms and dads do not know best, and judging by the reaction of the father when a judge ruled that Justina must remain in DCF custody, there may be some religious element to the nature of the medical abuse allegations.
"Evil!" he reportedly shouted in the courtroom.
Regardless of the Pelletiers' reasoning for denying their daughter the mental health care she needs, the fact remains that this little girl is ill. Somatoform spectrum disorders can be very dangerous, so it's important that she be taken care of by those who have her wellbeing in minds and not whatever motives allegedly motivated her parents to abuse her.
