US Assistant Secretary Richard Boucher, presently on visit to Pakistan, has met the Prime Minister Gillani, Chief Minister North Western Frontier Province, and other Government Officials. He has just finished his meeting with the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his senior Pakistan Muslim League Colleagues.
Most interestingly, Mr. Boucher has expressed strong reservations on talks with Militants. Instead, He has recommended fighting out the militants. This is not easy to explain in the context of several other US officials’ statements to the contrary. Brig. Mahmud Shah formerly responsible for FATA Affairs, while speaking on Pakistan Television (PTV) around the time this Report is being submitted advocates a mid-of-the path approach. He is not willing to share Mr. Boucher’s position. So does Mr. Hashim Member Executive Committee ANP – the ruling party in NWFP. Mr. Nawaz Sharif, during his meeting with Mr. Boucher, is reported to have strongly recommended resolution of so called militancy through a dialogue. He has also sought US and NATO Forces respecting Pakistan’s sovereignty.
