Update Tuesday, Oct. 8

It appears the group "Truckers Ride for the Constitution" is backpedaling on the rhetoric about their three-day planned protest for DC.

According to their Facebook page, which now boasts 67,728 likes, the highway lockdown and citizens' arrest of our politicians were drastically downgraded to a three-day strike.

They have accused the media of attempting to sensationalize their movement and warned that there are a lot of misinformation and misrepresentation out there. Namely Earl Conlon, who they say does not speak for them.

It was Conlon, claiming to be one of the organizers of the event, who told US News of the plans to arrest congressmembers and shut down the DC highway.

The group's mission statement on Facebook reads, "The American people are sick and tired of the corruption that is destroying America! We therefore declare a GENERAL STRIKE on the weekend of October 11-13, 2013! Truck drivers will not haul freight! Americans can strike in solidarity with truck drivers!"

There is also a posted dated 18 hours old, where the TRC is distancing themselves from other truckers groups, along with a link. Read post in its original context below.

"There are other Trucking groups out there spreading false information. They are not part of this group in anyway. Truckers To Shut Down America and Ride For The Constitution are the founders of this movement. Everybody else are copy's to divide and conquer but it will not work...Godspeed! Everyone!

It looks like it’s about to get a lot worse in Washington. Truckers protesting the government shutdown and other ills are planning to do some shutting down of their own.

According to ThinkProgress, a group of right-wing truckers intend to jam a D.C. highway and arrest members of Congress.

This showdown is scheduled to take place Friday, Oct. 11, where the truckers say they will drive to D.C. and cut off the major commuter highway that circles the city. They will then circle Interstate 495, also known as The Beltway, until those responsible for bringing the government to a halt are arrested.

The group, called “Truckers Ride for the Constitution,” is accusing elected officials of “violating their oath of office” and says they have had it with government incompetency.

The truckers are also deeply dissatisfied with a number of other issues, including Obamacare, the Environmental Protection Agency’s fuel efficiency standards and state laws forced on them as well as insurance companies’ technology upgrade requirements for their vehicles.

They are determined to protest what they call a violation of the Constitution and vow to park their big rigs directly on the highway if police try to stop them.

According to US News, the original plan was to impeach President Obama but that seems to have taken a slight detour. Earl Conlon [Unlink], one of the organizers of the protest, addressed the move from impeachment of Obama to the arrests of everyone else on Capitol Hill.

“We’re not asking for impeachment, we’re asking for the arrest of everyone in government who has violated their oath of office,” explained Conlon.

No specific strategy was given on how these arrests would be made and with special security always in place on The Capitol, this could get extremely ugly.

They have an additional grievance for wanting to arrest two Democratic elected officials from California. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein are accused of arming Syrian rebels.

Though this is a US fight, Canadian truckers might reportedly join the protest, which is slated to last three days.

To add to more trouble in the political capital, Vets are planning a “Million Vet March” on Washington Sunday to protest the government shutdown, which may coincide with the constitution truckers’ highway shutdown and citizens’ arrests.

All this on top of last week’s tragedies where 34-year-old Connecticut mother Miriam Carey was fatally shot by law enforcement when she reportedly tried to drive her car through the barricade at the White House, before she took police on a wild chase.

Then there was an unidentified man who died after setting himself on fire at the National Mall Friday, a few feet from where police killed Miriam Carey.

Not to pile on the melancholy, but the chilling Navy Yard shooting massacre, where Aaron Alexis slaughtered 12 people last month, happened a little more than two miles away.

And the government shutdown continues.
