Cincinnati Ohio The Pittsburgh Pirates will be hosting the National League Wild Card one game playoff on Tuesday after they beat their division rival Cincinnati Reds 8-3 on Saturday at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
The Pirates will make their first playoff appearance since 1992 when they lost to the Atlanta Braves in the finals of the playoffs that year.
The one game playoff will be played on Tuesday at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
The Reds and the Pirates had a three game series in Cincinnati this weekend to determine which team would host the wild card playoff game.
The Pirates won the first game of the series on Friday Night 4-1 and won the second game 8-3 on Saturday.
Both teams had clinched playoff berths before the three game series started. The Pirates have played the Reds in the National League playoffs in 1970, 1972, 1975, 1979 and 1990.
The Reds have won the playoff series in 1970, 1972, 1975 and 1990. In 1990 it was the last year the Reds won the World Series by beating the Oakland A's.
The Pirates won their playoff series in 1979 and went on to win the 1979 World Series by beating the Baltimore Orioles in seven games.
Cincinnati leads the all time series 13-7. The Reds clinched a playoff berth on Monday by beating the New York Mets 3-2. The Reds have lost four consecutive games since they cliched a postseason berth.
