Asiatic SDN BHD will be building the country's first compressed natural gas (CNG) station by the end of 2009, with the first conversion kits for vehicles arriving in March 2009.
The initiative is being carried out to provide a cheaper and more environmentally-friendly alternative to fuel, which will ultimately see consumers pay less for the litre, and the government saving on annual fuel subsidies.
Asiatic has been working closely with relevant figures in public and private sectors, and gained their support to carry out the project aimed at tackling the global rise in oil prices.
"The impact for Brunei Darussalam isn't so great-yet. But in the future, there is a high chance that we will feel more than just a pinch," explained an Asiatic representative.
He met with officials from several government agencies yesterday, which included the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Energy, BLNG, and BINA, and gained their full support for the project.
"We support any industry that wants to set up its operations in the country, and we will facilitate where we can... in line with the national objectives," said Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdillah bin Haji Abdul Wahab at yesterday's meeting.
