Nazi utopia fit for conservatives, harmful for the rest of us

A neo-Nazi has been buying up land in Leith, ND, with plans on changing the community's name after himself -- but these are the least of his plans. Craig Paul Cobb is planning a town inhabited by only white supremacists, and has already reportedly recruited other racists from around the country to live on the properties to help in "taking over" the town. This doesn't appear to be a joke, unfortunately, and apparently it's perfectly legal (for now).

The town will be called "Cobbsville," and residents who move onto the properties will be required to fly flags touting their racist beliefs. They will also be encouraged to recruit more people to move to their community in hopes of expanding. So it certainly sounds like this aging nutjob has grandiose dreams of growing his own cult of terroristic skinheads -- much like the ancient Nazi in “American History X.”

This place sounds like a racist conservative utopia in that its aging founder seems to have a particular disdain toward "leftists," "commies" and journalists. He even expressed, albeit vaguely, the plans to arrest and jail those who he puts in the aforementioned categories. Conservative whack-a-doos like Sean Hannity [Unlink] and Rush Limbaugh [Unlink] could end up getting summer homes there -- and it wouldn't be surprising -- and Ted Nugent [Unlink] could perform there. They would all publicize it under the guise of "free speech" instead of the support of the fascism that they clearly do support.

It's disturbing that this man is being allowed to do this, but that's the double edged sword that is "freedom of expression." If his plans are realized, though, it could be a slippery slope of allowing persecution to continue in small towns and conservative communities. There will also be the hovering fear of another Waco type of situation with this cult like mentality. The entire concept of Nazism is an aggressive one that reeks of violence. So it wouldn't be too far-fetched to fear violence from this North Dakota community. This is a group smaller than the Westboro Baptist Church, but there are a lot of hateful bigots in the country would likely jump to the opportunity of living like this with other like-minded folks. What happens when Cobbsville expands to numbers in the thousands? Will this "free expression" be tolerated when it's in such high of numbers that it begins to feel even more like a threat?
