Ian and Stuart Paton are twins who have succeeded in growing the heaviest pumpkin on British record. It weighs 1457 pounds beating the previous British record of 1341 pounds established just last month by a father and son farming duo. It also beat out the European record of 1357 pounds held by Belgians.
The record specimen took 129 days to grow. It was transported by a trailer pulled by a Volvo estate car and weighed by a winch at the Annual Pumpkin Show near Southampton.
The pumpkin has been growing in a greenhouse since April and consumed one and a half tonnes of manure.
The Paton brothers will not rest on their laurels. They are already planning ahead to grow an even heavier specimen. The world record of 1689 pounds established in Rhode Island, United States may be under threat.
