Obama Cancels Meeting With Putin Amid Tension Over Snowden - 8/72013

U.S. President Barack Obama canceled Moscow summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. The decision reflected the anger of the Obama administration over Moscow’s harboring of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Obama will however attend the Group of 20 economic summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was reportedly “disappointed” over Russia’s decision of granting 1-year temporary asylum for Snowden.

"We'll still work with Russia on issues where we can find common ground, but it was the unanimous view of the president and his national security team that a summit did not make sense in the current environment," White House deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes told the Associated Press.

The G-20 summit will take place in St. Petersburg on Sept. 5-6.
