Who will be ABC's “The Bachelor 2014”? People have been buzzing about this one for a while, and ABC will make the big announcement on Monday's “After the Final Rose” special with Desiree Hartsock. Logic would dictate that one of Hartsock's guys would get the gig, but people weren't necessarily getting excited about the most likely prospects. A picture posted by Juan Pablo Galavis on Instagram on Aug. 4 has people thinking he's going to be handing out roses soon, and this possibility does seem to be generating some excitement.
Juan Pablo Galavis didn't get much screen time during Desiree Hartsock's season of “The Bachelorette 2013,” but he has had the ladies swooning anyway. During the “Men Tell All” special he got some time in the hot seat, and many theorized it was because ABC was laying the groundwork to name him “The Bachelor 2014.” Reports that came out the next day saying he was a frontrunner seemed to further lay the groundwork.
Reality Steve has said that there was no way Juan Pablo Galavis would be “The Bachelor 2014,” but even he walked back on that during his appearance on the Kidd Kraddick show Monday. Now thanks to the Bach and Bachette Fan Forums, there is another strong indicator that Juan Pablo is about to be announced as the man to hand out roses this winter.
Juan Pablo's photo from Instagram has been pinned down to have been taken at The Standard Hotel Hollywood. As it happens, sleuthers note that producer Elan Gale also tweeted a picture from The Standard Hotel last year just before the “After the Final Rose” special. Given how early Juan Pablo left “The Bachelorette 2013,” there really is no other reason for him to be in town under ABC's command for Monday's finale.
Why pick Juan Pablo Galavis as “The Bachelor 2014”? In all likelihood it was a shift when production came to terms with the final four being lackluster candidates in the eyes of many fans. Drew Kenney certainly was being positioned for the gig, but he simply hasn't managed to get America to fall in love with him. What about the other final four guys? They all have their fans, to be certain, but none has been fully embraced by viewers.
ABC surely looked through the franchise for other possibilities, and both Jef Holm and Arie Luyendyk Jr. were mentioned by media and fans. However, both would be controversial choices given how many perceive them since “The Bachelorette” with Emily Maynard. The network probably looked at new faces too, but they haven't gone with an unknown in many seasons.
So, if Jef, Arie, Drew, Chris, Brooks and Zak are all determined to be lackluster choices, what did they have left? Many would say the network and production looked at Juan Pablo and thought he might have the juice to generate the buzz they needed. He did well with fans during the “Men Tell All,” and for the most part viewers seem to get behind him for “The Bachelor 2014” more than they do the other most viable candidates.
ABC will announce “The Bachelor 2014” Monday night, the earliest they've ever made this announcement. Will it be Juan Pablo Galavis? Or has ABC managed to throw off the scent from their actual choice? Will you be tuning in if Juan Pablo is handing out roses come January?
