Oklahoma City is getting another major league team. In addition to having the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Major League Basketball team, will soon have its very own Major League Soccer (MLS) team. According to a July 17 report by KTWV Channel 9 News in Oklahoma City, Prodigal LLC is currently scouting locations in the Greater Oklahoma City Metro Area for a new MLS franchise.

Prodigal is looking at a minimum of 10 different sites for the MLS team in Oklahoma City. One of those locations is near the Oklahoma River.

Once a location is found, it is expected to take three years to build the stadium. At the time of publication, it was unknown when the groundbreaking would be.

No matter how long it takes to get an MLS franchise in Oklahoma City, there will be a United Soccer League franchise in the area in the spring of 2014. It will be owned and operated by Prodigal as well.

The MLS stadium will begin with 7,000 seats. It will be built with the ability to expand to seat 20,000. A 20,000-seat stadium is the smallest stadium that will be considered as a MLS stadium.”

It is believed that a Major League Soccer team will do well in Oklahoma City. It is thought that Oklahoma City has a “tremendous market” for soccer.
