Gilani moves resolution in the joint sitting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in Wednesday’s sitting of the parliament moved a resolution requesting the Speaker National Assembly to convert the joint sitting into the committee of the Whole House.

The Prime Minister moved the resolution for the purpose of briefing and question answers on the matters relating to national security.

The resolution was moved under Rule 29 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of the Business of the National Assembly, 2007 read with Rule 33, of the Parliament (Joint Sitting) Rules, 1973.

Under these rules, request is made for invoking the inherent powers of the Speaker for converting the joint sitting of the Parliament into the Committee of the Whole House

The resolution further sought the reversion of the Committee of the Whole House into the Joint Sitting after the briefing.
