Miss Silicon Valley Crystal Lee was crowned Miss California 2013 and a $12,000 scholarship on Saturday night, June 29 after competing with 61 young women participated in the competition from around the state at William Saroyan Theatre at Fresno Convention Center in Central California for the 21st consecutive year.
Miss California 2012 Leah Cecil handed the coveted crown to the 21-year-old of San Francisco, who will represent California at the finals of Miss America 2014 pageant, which will be held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey in September.Lee was selected Miss California’s Outstanding Teen in 2008.
Lee is a Stanford University graduate and she is "currently a senior at Stanford majoring in Human Biology and finishing MA in Communication.” while her pageant platform is "Girls in S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)."
"I'm so excited, so grateful, so fulfilled, so overwhelmed and so appreciative.It's just such a privilege to compete on the same stage" as the other contestants" Crystal Lee said during the event.
On Tuesday, Lee won the preliminary talent competition after performing ballet.
The first runner-up was Miss South Coast Caylynn Simonson, 22, of Bakersfield while the second runner-up was Miss Culver City Katy Tang, 24, of Anaheim, and the third runner up selected as Miss Central Coast Jordan Krinke of Placentia. Miss Pasadena, Laura Berger of Glendale was named the fourth runner-up.
