Sopranos 'Genius' James Gandolfini Dies Aged 51

James Gandolfini Dead At 51: 'Sopranos' Star Dies In Italy BREAKING NEWS. R.I.P.

U.S star James Gandolfini has died in Italy while on a holiday at the age of 51 of a suspected heart attack. He was famously known for his portrayal of New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano in television series The Sopranos.

Gandolfini who died on Wednesday in Rome, was on a holiday with his second wife Deborah Lin, his daughter and his teenage son Michael from his first wife. He was due to appear at a film festival in Sicily at the weekend.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that he died with a heart attack or a stroke.

Upon hearing the news about the death of the actor many actors and other famous personalities paid tributes to him and his family through their twitter accounts that include, David Chase creator of the Sopranos, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, U.S. Sen. John McCain, N.J. Gov. Chris Christie, Olivia Wilde, Nia Vardalos, Kristin Chenoweth, Christina Applegate, Ricky Gervais, Russell Simmons, Mia Farrow, Susan Sarandon, Russell Crowe, Minnie Driver and many others.

Gandolfini was an Italian-American from New Jersey. Born in 1961. In 1992 he was cast alongside Jessica Lange and Alec Baldwin in a Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire. The following year he took a supporting role as a hood in the Quentin Tarantino's movie, True Romance and that role earned him his role in the Sopranos.

Gandolfini played for six Sopranos series from 1999 to 2007. He was nominated for six Emmy Awards and won three.

He also played memorable supporting roles in other movies such as Get Shorty (1995), Crimson Tide (1995), The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001), Killing Them Softly (2012) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012).
