The Hollywood heavyweight,, who won multiple Emmy Awards for his role as mob boss Tony Soprano in the smash HBO series “The Sopranos,” died of a heart attack Wednesday. He was 51. His death was confirmed by HBO
Gandolfini was suffering in Rome and this weekend he was slated to appear at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily. The actor from the Westwood, NJ, played Soprano in the critically much-admired series, which ran from 1999 to 2007 and ended with the screen fading to black.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1961, and grew up in Park Ridge. He recently playedin “Zero Dark Thirty,” which is based on the raid to hunt down Osama bin Laden.
