Sheridan Pope was crowned Miss Montana 2013 on Saturday, the Miss America Organization announced.
She advanced to the Miss Montana competition after being crowned Miss Sidney.
She will now represent Montana this September at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.
The final night of competition and crowning of the new Miss America will be broadcast live on the ABC television network.
"I try my best to inspire youth and young adults, like myself, to be happy with who you are and be proud of your control over your life," she wrote on her website. "I haven’t always made the right decision and things didn’t always come easily for me, but because I overcame them and turned my life down the right journey, I am a role model and that is what success means to me."
"My goal isn't to live forever - it is to create something that will," she wrote for her Twitter profile.
Miss Montana is not Pope’s first statewide pageant title. She was first runner-up at the Miss Montana’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in 2009.
If she is crowned Miss America, she will become the first titleholder from Montana to wear the national crown.
