The Republican nitpicking has sunk to a new low as “umbrella-gate” joins last week’s succession of scandals.
While President Barack Obama was sliced and diced over Benghazi-gate, IRS-gate and AP-gate, Republicans like Sarah Palin took to Twitter to slam the president for one more outrageous offense: letting two US Marines hold umbrellas over his head and that of visiting Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a little downpour of rain.
Below is her tweet taking a jab at the president:
"Mr. President, when it rains it pours, but most Americans hold their own umbrellas [...] http://fb.me/zAZryzjj"
The fascinating thing with these hypocrites is they forget we live in a world of rewind, fast forward, pause and replay and that everything gets recorded for posterity. Above is a photo of our celebrity vice-presidential nominee, Alaskan part-time governor, author, reality star and public speaker, doing exactly what she criticized Obama for doing.
There is also a photo of the late Republican President Ronald Reagan and wife Nancy, having their umbrellas held over their heads by hands other than their own.
It is this kind of partisan, mindless nitpicking that has helped twist this country into the frustrating knot that it is tied in at the moment. Forget substantive issues, let’s distract, divert and obscure to the point that their uninformed “fans” will remain in a state of angry lather over Obama.
Palin, near the top of the list for the mindless, should be the last person throwing darts. But alas, she seems like she is still unaware of her role in that mold. Her two minutes of fame was cleverly stretched into 10 and I must commend her for mastering the art of parlaying nothing into millions in profit.
Only in America can one fake it and make it--big time. Despite Palin’s lack of knowledge and intellect, with a pregnant teenaged daughter in tow during her run for high office, the woman is still counted in some conservative circles as a political heroine with the right amount of family values.
How did she fake it and still make it? Oh, let me count the ways.
She called the president a teleprompter king while using her hand as a cue card for her ABCs.
She criticized President Obama’s performance while dropping out on her responsibility as governor of Alaska. The woman quit midway but thought she could be vice president of this vast, complex nation.
She threw aspersions on Obama’s qualification and his role as a community organizer when he graduated from Ivy League universities and she took about 100 years and changed several colleges before she got her journalism degree. Below is a comparision of education histories:
1982, enrolled at the University of Hawaii (1-2 Semesters)
1982, transferred to the Hawaii Pacific University (2 Semesters)
1983, transferred to North Idaho Community College (2 Semesters)
1984, won Miss Wasilla Beauty Pageant
1984, placed third in the Miss Alaska Pageant (Played the flute for talent and won Miss Congeniality award and a college scholarship)
1984, transferred to the University of Idaho, Moscow (one year)
1985, Alaska Matanuska-Susitna College (1 Semester)
1986, transferred to the University of Idaho, received Bachelor’s Degree in Communication
Columbia University (B.A.)
Harvard Law School (J.D.)
[Note more is not necessarily better, for though Palin certainly spent a longer time in the halls of higher learning, she didn’t walk away with more than the president.]
Called Obama a “celebrity president” when she sank to the lowest of low and did a reality television show and towed the country on a bus while running for—well nothing.
Seeing Russia from her house counted as foreign policy experience, and reading a newspaper was foreign.
She's still calling herself the female version of “Joe the Plumber” and one of the “little people” when she is now worth millions of dollars. Thanks to books, speaking engagements and reality TV.
As I said before; only in America.
