In Istanbul (Turkey), at least two people lost their lives while 18 others ended up injured amid a mid-air collision, involving two hot air balloons. Authorities informed the balloons collided early Monday while in the tourist region known as Cappadocia.
Anadolu, the semi-official news agency of the country reported that the tragic accident occurred when one balloon flying above another one, struck it from the top thus sending the second balloon down in seconds. A spokesperson for ‘Ortahisar’ town, Ahmet Tetikci, said everyone on the balloon received injuries; nine of them are said to be seriously injured.
Tetikci further informed that there were no reports on nationality of the deceased balloon riders, killed in Cappadocia, one of the major tourist attractions in Turkey, with a booming hot air balloon industry. More details are awaited while an investigation into the matter is also underway.
