Apirak Kosayodhin

Democrat Party deputy leader Apirak Kosayodhin won a second term as governor of Bangkok in the election on Sunday, according to local press reports, which cited unofficial results and exit polls.

The Bangkok Post cited figures from Bangkok city clerk Pongsak Semsan, who said Apirak had 991,018 votes, or 45.93%, followed by former Bangkok subway chief Prapas Chongsa-nguan, who had 543,488 votes, or 25.19%.

Former massage parlor tycoon Chuwit Kamolvisit came in third with 340,616 votes, or 15.79%. Academic Kriangsak "Dr. Dan" Charoenwongsak cames in fourth place, with 260,051 votes, or 12.05%. Businesswoman Leena Jungjanja had 6,267 votes, or 0.29%.

Prapas was a candidate under the People's Power Party banner, which is the ruling party of Thailand. However, Bangkok has traditionally been a Democrat stronghold.

Voter turnout was at around 54%.

In all, there were 16 candidates running for governor, as shown in a chart by The Nation newspaper
