Archeologists of the Mexico National Institute of Anthropology are thrilled at their latest discovery of hundreds of golden glowing orbs (see video) in a 2000-year old tunnel under the Temple of the Feathered Serpent in Mexico.
It was the tiny robot Tlaloc-II TC that made the discovery of the mysterious items by using infrared scanners.
The temple is situated in the pre-Hispanic city of Teotihuacan and located hardly 30 miles from Mexico City - it is famous for its towering Pyramids of the Moon and the Sun.
On a preliminary check of these golden orbs, the archeologists feel that the spheres appear to be made of gold because they are covered in jarosite - they are in fact clay balls with 1.5 to 5-inches diameter.
This jarosite a bi-product of the oxidisation of pyrite, also known as Fool's Gold.
