Here continues the British obsession with Kate MossKate Moss: the British Museum has recreated her life-size likeness as the modern day Aphrodite carved out of gold with her legs tucked behind her head.

The statue is made of 18 carat gold and finds its home in the midst of other statues of Greek goddesses.

The likeness is so precise that its weight is comparable to that of its subject at about 50 kg. That officially makes it the largest gold statue carved by man since Egyptian times. It cost a whopping 1.5 million Pounds Sterling out of which 1 million was spent on the gold alone. But the investment should be worth it. It could fetch up to 10 million when it eventually goes on sale.

It required Moss to pose for a day though apparently not in the somewhat painful pose in which she is depicted.
