Alien invaders of another kind have compelled the UK authorities to sit up and take notice.
These invaders are not from outer space of other planets but belong to our own planet Earth and their attacks have taken a severe toll on the wildlife of UK as reported in telegraph.co.uk of dated 21st of February 2013.
One of these aliens are the bee-killing yellow-legged hornets - these are of Asian origin and can be between 2.5-cm to 3-cm and preys on honeybees, wasps and other such insects that belong to the pollinator category - this is adversely affecting the production of honey and crops..
Another alien is the Asian tiger mosquito - these have links to as many as 20 different types of diseases like yellow fever and chikungunya fever.
Then there are the common ragweed that came from North America in bird feds and can cause hayfever..
The Spanish slug that can attain lengths of up to 15-cm and can destroy gardens and have bad effect on horticulture.
American mink, grey squirrel, zebra mussels, American bullfrogs, rhododendrons, Japanese knotweed, harlequin ladybirds and the horse chestnut leaf-miner moth are other alien species that are creating havoc and disturbing the ecological balance.
These have entered the UK in various ways and are now a major cause for worry.
