For the first time in show history “American Idol” presents a suden death round with perforances befroe a live audience. For the next couple of weeks the show travels to Las Vegas where half of the singers will not survive the judges decisions.

First up were 10 of the girls and by the end of the night half of them would be sent home.

Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine is in the audience and will serve as the tie breaker vote if needed.

For the sudden death round the singers can perform any song in any genre. Normally the singers perform very well known songs from some of the top artists, but this week some of the girls chose lesser known songs with only a few popular ones.

The singers will have to wait intil after all of them have performed to learn their fate when the judges were brought on stage to deliver the results.

First up was country girl Jenny Beth with a performance Keith said was a great way to start the show; adding that she was easy to watch. Nicki liked her voice but felt Jenny didn't come alive until the end of the song. Randy said the perforance felt jerky and out of sync; adding that it wasn't Jenny's best perfora. Mariah called it a nice perforance but felt it needed to be more dynamic.

Keith told Teena that her perforance was beautiful with a lot of control. Nicki also loved Teena's control, calling her perforance a great song choice that reminded her of the eighties R&B singers. Randy called the perforance the start of the night and that was how you do it; adding that Teena had connected with the emotion of the song and gave a beautiful delivery of the song. Mariah agreed with her fellow judges; and added that she gave a pure perforance.

Seventeen year old Adriana is the first Idol contestant from the state of Alaska. After a standing ovation Keith said that NOW the night had started; adding that she had channeled all the soul the song required. Nicki noted that Adriana commanded the stage from the moment she walked out on the stage; adding that Adriana had a great vocal. Randy said that Adriana was born to sing and that she was a pro. After asking how she felt, Mariah said that Adriana should be proud; adding that she loved the version of the song, giving it an A+.

Keith didn't quite believe Brandy's performance questioning her emotional connection to the song. Nicki said that Keith took the words out of her mouth calling it a pagaent performance and that it didn't feel real. Randy said she didn't have the right connection and her perforance didn't tell him about who she was. Mariah also questioned the emotional connection to the song; but said that she would like to see Brandy do an album of classics.

Shubha started her perforance of
“Born this Way” on the piano. While Keith thought Shubha's voice came powering through he was confused with all of the stuff going on in the perforance. Nicki agreed with Keith; adding that the perforance was like a mash up of Christina Aguilera and PSY. Agreeing with his fellow judges, Randy added that the song had way too many runs but that she also had some amazing potentilal. Mariah made it unanimous agreeing with her fellow judges saying that Shubha needed to learn how to balance it all out.

While saying that Kamaria could really sing, Keith questioned the song choice saying that she didn't make an emotional connection to the song. Nicki complemented Kamaria on her style but didn't feel the “vocal thing” worked. Randy said that it was her worst perforance with the pitch going all over the place. Mariah called Kamaria adorable and marketable but felt it was the wrong song choice.

Keith called Kree a natural born singer, was beautiful to watch, effortless, and authentic; but cautioned her not to over do it. Nicki said that every other girl should be afraid of Kree; adding that Kree makes love to a song every time she sings it. Randy said that Kree was a natural born singer that connected with the lyrics; adding that he felt like he was at one of her shows. Mariah called Kree's perforance organic and amazing; adding that she got lost in the lyrics and it was a beautiful thing to watch.

Keith called Angela a huge talent that can do a lot with a little. Nicki called her a top contender; adding that nothing could compare with the original song Angela had performed during Hollywood week. Randy called Angela a budding superstar who could get inside a song. Mariah said Angela's potentilal was limitless and told her to keep writing and that the world should hear her original song.

Nicki told the boys to eat their heart out after Isabelle's perforance of “God Bless the Child”. Randy said that Isabelle had a big talent and a great voice but the song felt old fashioned to him. Mariah said that Isabelle's vocal was selling her.

The final perforance of the night was “My Funny Valentine” from Amber that Keith said was timeless and that Amber knocked it out of the park. Nicki said Amber had an A+++ vocal that was the top of the class. Randy called it an amazing vocal with great control. Mariah couldn't wait to see Amber in the studio making an album; adding that it was a brillian perforance.

The judges made all of their decisions and did not need the help of Jimmy Iovine.

Jenny Beth, Brandy, Isabelle, Kamaria, and Shubha did not make the cut; but

Teena, Kree, Angela, amber, and adriana will be moving on to sing for fan votes.

On Thursday's show 10 of the guys will perform.
