It was a car that rammed into the gas mains of JJ's Bar and Restaurant in the shopping district of Kansas City which resulted in a blaze that destroyed a large portion of the area as reported in nzherald.co.nz of dated 20th of February 2013.
Thee was a strong smell of gas and it seems some utility work was going on.
The incident took place at around 6pm which is taken as the peak of weekday happy hour when 15 to 45 patrons would be at the bar and three to five tables of diners.
There are many injuries of broken bones but no immediate reports of any fatality.
Initially three ambulances had been sent to the spot and it was later increased to 10 since the number of injured was more.
The University of Kansas Hospital is treating 5 injured – one of hem is critical and two serious.
The injured who have been taken to St Luke's Hospital all appear to be critical.
Incidentally, the shopping area based on the architecture of Seville, Spain, had been set up in 1922 by JC Nichols – it has retail shops, restaurants, apartments as well as offices.
