Large fireball lights up the sky in Russia’s Urals region reportedly caused by a meteorite shower, but the big explosion followed caused major panic in three major cities as it shattered houses and blown out windows. The meteorite explosion also causes cellphones to stopped working as reported by RT News.
The bright flash of meteorite fireball light the sky in the Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Sverdlovsk regions, Russia’s Republic of Bashkiria and in northern Kazakhstan.
According to reports, the air defense unit of Urzhumka has allegedly intercepted the meteorite causing the large fireball explossion. The missile-meteorite salvo impact reportedly blew the sky-falling object into pieces that resulted to houses and buildings windows being shattered.
Injuries were reported caused by smashing windows in one of the school buildings that was hit by meteorite fragments. RT news obtained some meteorite videos and photos of huge trail of smoke across the sky. No casualties being reported so far.
High alert was implemented in Chelyabinsk and other neighboring region to protect vital infrastracture in their cities.
Speculation brew up that the impending Asteroid 2012 DA14 arrival close to Earth might cause the meteorite fall in Russia.
But according to EarthSky.org, the near Earth asteroid 2012 DA14 will have a very close pass near Earth today February 15, but it will not strike the Earth. It will sweep approximately 21,000 miles from us – much closer than the moon’s orbit and closer than geosynchronous satellites.
With less than 24-hours before meteorites hit Russia on Friday morning, the space rock 2012 DA14 will pass on Earth visible through binoculars for about four hours between 18:00 and 22:00 GMT also today. But sadly it can't be viewed in North and South America since it's best seen in the other part of the world from Australia, Asia and Europe.
Could the meteorites strike in Russia are the fragments of Asteroid 2012 DA14? Could it be apocalypse? We don't know, but well bring more updates on the latest Russia meteorite as investigation progresses.
