Skooter reports 02/13/13
A gun battle between two deputies and Christopher Doner occurred today where one of the deputies has died, according to an official with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
During an afternoon presscon, Sheriff John McMahon said the other officer is in surgery, and expected to recover.
About 12:30 p.m., the deputies were injured after they took up reports of a stolen vehicle near a Club View Drive cabin.
The deputies located the stolen vehicle of the suspect, who fits the description of murder suspect Dorner. He fled and fortified himself in a nearby cabin. An exchange of gunfire followed which led to the injuries. The deputies were air transported out of the mountain to local hospitals.
Meantime according to Fish and Game spokesman Andrew Hughan there were no California Fish and Game wardens have been wounded or killed.
Early Thursday morning, Dorner has already been charged with murdering Riverside police officer and Marine Corps veteran Michael Crain. He was also charged with three counts of attempted murder for supposedly wounding Crain’s partner and shooting at two LAPD officers who had been assigned to a special protective detail in Corona.
In addition to those charges on Feb. 3 in Irvine, Dorner is accused shooting to death Monica Quan and her fiance Keith Lawrence.
