Hunger

The irony is that people are going hungry not because of a lack of food. Hafez Ghanem, FAO assistant director-general for economic and social development, says: "Hunger increased as the world grew richer and produced more food than ever during the last decade."

Therein lies the tragedy. And that is why the UN is trying to wake up governments and work up corporations to contribute towards reducing poverty.
