Graphic on Papua New Guinea where six people have died in a light plane crash

In a shocking instance of inhumanity in Papua New Guinea, a 20-year old woman accused of being a witch was dragged out of her house, stripped, struck with iron rods and burnt alive in the local rubbish dump on a pyre of tyres after tying her hands and legs.

She had been accused of killing her neighbor's six year old son by using witchcraft – the boy had complained of pains in the stomach and chest and expired in the Mt Hagen hospital.

Police who had come to the scene to rescue the woman were shooed away and those standing nearby took videos of this horrific incident of the woman screaming in her death throes.

This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk of dated 7th of February 2013.

The woman Kepari Leniata (20) is a mother of two and it seems she had 'confessed' to the crime in the village of Paiala situated in the highlands of PNG – hence, the punishment.

In those areas, witchcraft is used to do away with enemies.

The head bishop of a Lutheran Church of the locality has condemned the killing as has the US Embassy of PNG.
