The name of 15-year old Malala Yusafzai, the teenager of Pakistan who had dared the Taliban and had been shot in her head by a gunman of the Taliban, has now been nominated for the 2013 Nobel Peace prize – her nomination was made by three members of the Norwegian Labour party as reported in worldnews.nbcnews.com of dated 2nd February 2013.
The three members are De Ruiter along with Gorm Kjernli and Magne Rommetveit.
The reasons cited for the nomination are that she has now become a symbol in the fight against forces that destroy democracy, equality and human rights.
It may be recalled that she had been shot in Swat Valley in October-2012 and was flown over to London and was treated in the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham to remove the bullet that had lodged in her brain.
She has now been readmitted in the hospital to undergo surgery to restore her hearing – a custom-made titanium plate would be inserted in her skull and she would also get a cochlear implant in her left ear.
This has been reported in telegraph.co.uk of dated 3rd of February 2013.
The doctors believe that in another 15 to 18 months time, she should be able to hear like any normal person.
