At least 14 persons are feared to have been killed and more than 80 injured in an explosion in the basement of the iconic 52-storied tower of Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) in Mexico City (watch video).
Three floors of the building that houses the administrative offices of PEMEX have suffered damages as reported in nzherald.co.nz of dated 1st of February 2013.
It seems several thousand of people work in the tower and the explosion caused heavy damages to the main floor, the mezzanine floor and window up to the third floor have also been affected.
The reason for the explosion is under investigation but it could been due to electrical short circuit.
The authorities have closed the streets in the surrounding neighborhood and pressed into action four helicopters to evacuate the trapped persons because the tower is located in a busy commercial cum business district.
