15-year old girl Hadiya Pendleton who danced at Obama's inauguration shot dead in a park

In yet another shocking incident of gun violence, 15-year old Hadiya Pendleton who had performed at the inauguration of President Barack Obama was shot dead by a gunman.

She was in a park in Chicago enjoying life with her friends when a stray bullet snuffed out her life as reported in news.com.au of dated 31st of January 2013.

Hadiya was a majorette with the King College Prep band and the incident took place in a park in South side neighborhood just 2-Km from the home of the President.

She was shot in the back as she tried to escape from the hail of bullets unleashed by the gunman – it appears the gunman did not pick any specific target but shot indiscriminately.

It seems Hadiya with others of the volleyball team had taken refuge under a shed to escape from rains when the gunman climbed over the fence, opened fire and then jumped back over the fence and fled in a white colored Nissan.

Initial investigations by the police have established that neither Hadiya nor others in the group had links to any gang – hence, inter gang rivalry has been ruled out as a motive.
