LaPierre refuses to say what kind of legislation the NRA would be willing to support, including background checks, preferring to imply that nothing works so why bother? He is a morally bankrupt individual, who takes his job to keep gun manufacturers in business, very seriously, because that is what he is paid to do.
We need to write about every act of gun violence, whether it's in our own communities or anywhere in the US. I will pledge to do this from now on. I will never give up advocating for gun safety, even if we get diluted legislation.
In addition to your dilemma in Chicago about bringing in guns from out of state is the problem with private sales of guns, and this goes on at gun shows all the time. If an individual wants to sell a gun to another individual--there are no qualifications or questions asked. Anyone can buy a gun. Universal background checks would help with this, and also gun show sponsors should not allow it. Or if it's done they should have to follow the same procedure as someone buying a gun from a licensed dealer.
