New York City New York. New York Yankees general managertold radio station WFAN on Friday that third baseman could miss playing baseball for the entire 2013 Major League Baseball after he had hip surgery in January.
Rodriguez had surgery on his hip on January 16 to repair a torn labrum and impingment. He had a similar surgery on his right hip in 2009.
After the surgery officials with the New York Yankees were hoping Rodriguez would return after the Major League Baseball All Star Game in July. Cashman said "there no guarantees in this stuff."
Cashman said on Friday "I think because of the serious nature of the surgery and the condition that he's trying to recover from, you know. there is that chance.'
Rodriguez is 37 years of age. The Yankees owe him $108 million for the next five years. His injury may have been the reason he performed poorly in the 2012 postseason a doctor who has operated on Rodriguez said.
As a replacement for Rodriguez the New York Yankees signed free agentin December 2012 to a one year contract worth $12 million. Youkilis played for the Boston Red Sox earlier in his baseball career.
