The Moon has still not lost an iota of its charms and is apparently a destination favored by NASA as reported in foxnews.com of dated 16th of January 2013.
It seems that NASA is in talks with ESA (European Space Agency) to carry out a joint mission to the Moon in the Orion capsule of NASA which would be powered by a propulsion system to be developed by the ESA on the lines of the supply ship that is used for the ISS (International Space Station).
The first trip of Orion would be an unmanned mission in 2017 to be followed up by a manned mission in 2021 - the bell-shaped Orion spacecraft would be employed to ferry astronauts to distant asteroids and even to Mars.
As revealed by NASA, both the missions would be targeted at the Moon and there could be fly-bys apart from landings.
The total European contribution in the form of funds is expected to be in the region of nearly $600 million.
