By using the Internet to their advantage, millions of teenagers around the world have expressed themselves through videos, art, and even writing—broadening their horizon as a result. What would have been an agonizing chore in the 90’s has now been made easy thanks to websites like Youtube, Fanfiction.net, Deviantart, Figment.com, Allvoices.com, and Tumblr.

In this new generation, the pursuit for fame, fortune, and everything of the likeness has been made much simpler than what was the case for teenagers of previous generations. In addition to making her pursuit easier, the Internet has allowed Whitko sophomore Mary Morin to share her “art and prose with more people in the world.” With the help of the Internet, she has the option to express herself with the globe—rather than limit herself to the people within her small community.

The popularization of websites like Youtube.com has turned video-making into a very important part of the Internet’s infrastructure. With Youtube celebrities like Smosh, Nigahiga, Freddiw, and Pewdiepie, video making is only becoming more and more popular as time goes on.

Whether they hand-draw or use computer software to craft their works, artists around the world have posted pictures, comics, and even Adobe Flash animations on DeviantArt.com and Tumblr. The term “starving artist” holds no place on these websites. In addition to ordinary teenagers, celebrities like Lauren Faust continue to leave their artistic marks on these websites.

With the Internet replacing the printing press in recent decades, writing has become much more popular within worldwide society. For both creative and journalistic writers, websites like Fanfiction.net, Figment.com, Allvoices.com, and even DeviantArt have promoted creativity and fun for their members. Said websites encourage their users to participate in contests, view other peoples’ work, and give constructive criticism to other writers. This is all backed up by strong, friendly communities—which only makes the overall experience all the more enjoyable.

There are plenty of other websites that allow its users to advertise themselves. But whether the people of today’s society want to make themselves famous in the ways of music, video, writing, or art, the Internet is there to help.
