It was a fishing competition and the winning entry was of a bass that weighed 13-lb and the person who claimed to have caught it from the English Channel walked off with the 1st prize of £800.
The event had been organized by the Bailiwick Bass Fishing Club in Guernsey.
But - the joy of the winner was short-lived because he had stolen the bass from the local aquarium and had passed it off as his own catch.
This has been reported in telegraph.co.uk of dated 10th of January 2013.
The fraud was noticed by a fellow angler because that particular bass was a star attraction in the local aquarium and he recognized it from some special markings on its head.
When charged, the man initially refused to admit to the theft but, later, admitted that he had resorted to the theft in order to repay a long-outstanding debt of £1,500.
He has been awarded a punishment of 100-hours community service by the Guernsey Magistrates Court in the Channel Islands.
