And now for some good news: A mom who held out hope since 1994 must have been beyond ecstatic to find out her son, who was abducted at age 5, is alive and well today. Reportedly, his paternal...

It's so heart-warming to know
that the long-lost son of a
family in Indiana has finally
been found. The grand-parents
in this case must be pulled up
by the law. Thanks for this
amazing report Steph. Rated and
shared.

Thanks Nina for commenting. It is a sad story with a great ending. So glad the parents hung in there and pulled out the SS card.

Just be grateful he is alive and happy. He apparently was loved and cared for. I don't agree with kidnapping but since I have no idea what his parents were like I cannot make any opinion on that.

What a nightmare for the parents! Thanks for commenting slpsharon.

Thanks for the story Steph.

We have all seen the stories on TV shows about family disputes and the tug between grandparents and their children when grandchildren are involved, even with parents kidnapping their own children to keep them from the other parent they are divorcing. These stories are incredibly sad, and the children are the ones who suffer the most when adults put their needs before their children or grandchildren.

I just hope the child in this case can be reunited with his mother and create a relationship they both deserve.

Thanks Dava, I agree. I hope it will be like they were never apart!

Thank you for reporting on this story, Stephanie. Rated up and promo'd.

The grandparents were incredibly wrong for what they did; yet, I'm torn about how it should be handled. I'm positive the boy, now an adult male, was loved and cared for by his grandparents -- yet they, undoubtedly, lied to him too. He probably has mixed emotions and feelings about his situation.

There's no question that what the grandparents did was illegal; however, we don't know why they did it. Perhaps the mother could not take care of the boy. It will be interesting to see what the law does in this situation.

The story has a happy ending, because the boy was physically safe, but I wonder how he's faring mentally and emotionally, since he discovered the truth.

Thanks Phyllis for your input. You make some interesting points. You are right, we do not know all the details. As a parent, I wrote this from my place of reference which was "How dare they!". But, truly every story is different, so it is a tough one. Thanks for showing the other side. You and Nina have some good thoughts. I guess that's why the comments can be as good or better than the articles themselves!

I think about the parental side too, Stephanie, and what the grandparents did outrages me. If there were problems, they should have settled them in a court of law, yet, they, themselves, chose to use aliases like criminals.

I'm wondering if the mother will have a say in whether the grandparents are criminally prosecuted or if the law will decide. I know the mother is overjoyed but can't help but think about 19 years of her son's life that she didn't get to share with him.

Hopefully the mother will be able to have a say in the matter since she is probably the one who suffered the most. If the paternal grandparents did this I would guess "dad" had to be involved and interacting in Richard's life throughout. I can't imagine he was blocked from his life too. But, surely a Lifetime movie will be in the works!

what a great story Steph... it is good to see stories with happy endings... even though there could be some emotional fallout, at least the young man is alive and well. hopefully if there are any issues they will be resolved quickly so he can go on with his life...^ shared

Thanks TJ--surely the emotional fallout will be great. Hadn't even thought about the whole "time" thing with courts, etc. Hopefully that will be resolved in a manner that takes care of the injustice to the family and as you said lets them get on with their lives.
