It was premium times, an online news portal based in Abuja, Nigeria that first drew the attention of this reporter to the bad news.

Ayo Ositelu, a veteran sports journalist died on Wednesday, while watching television with his wife.

Kayode Tijani, one of the many bosom friends of the departed confirmed the death after speaking with the wife of the departed.

His words: “I can confirm now that Deacon AYO OSITELU is indeed DEAD. Spoke to his wife. He was watching TV with her and next he was dead. Am in SHOCK!” Tijani said on his tweeter handle.

Ositelu, former chairman of Ejigbo Local Council in Lagos, south-west Nigeria was a gentleman to the core. He has worked for more than three decades as sports journalists for various newspapers in Nigeria.
