No episode in daytime television was seen more than the marriage of Luke and Laura on “General Hospital”.
The popular daytime drama is the lone survivor of the daytime serial dramas that once filled the ABC afternoon line up.– who played Laura Spencer – left the show in 2008. Next month Francis will reprise her role as Laura Spencer on “General Hospital”. Francis says that she does not know what story line the show has in store for Laura and while she refuses to tell program executives how to run the show, she has asked that they find some way of explaining why Laura would leave the city of Port Charles and her children – Lucky Spencer, Lulu Spencer, and Nikolas Cassadine.
Francis’ return to “General Hospital” is in part to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the show, but it is not known how long she will remain as a part of the cast.
While best known as Laura Spencer in 172 episodes of “General Hospital”, Genie Francis has appeared in several other programs both daytime and prime time including her 1976 television debut as Alice Dennison in two episodes of “Family”, “Fantasy Island”, as Patricia “Tyger” Hayes in 12 episodes of “Bare Essence”, 15 episodes of “North and South” series as Brett Main Hazard, “Hotel”, one episode of “Days of Our Lives”, three episodes of “Murder: She Wrote”, 12 episodes of “All My Children”, five episodes of “The Incredible Hulk”, and 85 episodes of “The Young and the Restless”.
Eugenie Ann Francis was born in Englewood, New Jersey on May 26, 1962 the daughter of actor Ivor Francis. She married fellow actor Jonathan Frakes – Commander Riker of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” fame – in 1988. The couple have two children – Jameson and Elizabeth.
