Where is Jyoti Singh Pandey’s mother, Asha?
Why are only male members of her family pictured in stories revealing the identity of the gang-raped and murdered young woman whose name has previously been withheld from the world?
Why is there no picture of Jyoti?
Why is there no picture of her mother?
The Daily Mail report cited below says the mother is "too shell-shocked to talk to reporters.
Is she also too shell-shocked to have her picture taken?
Could she not have issued a prepared statement?
Were there no other female members of the family willing or able to participate in that photo shoot to offer a comment?
These are serious questions that need to be asked of her father Badri Singh Pandey.
Maybe the anomalies, inconsistencies and irregularties of the media's reports on the Barbados rapes have left me a bit paranoid.
But the male-dominated family picture used in this Daily Mail story just seems cruelly incongruous at a time when and in a situation where women's voicelessness and victimization in India is under scrutiny.
