Well, it’s one for the money, two for the show, three for the 2013 Elvis Parkes Festival, now go, go, go. You want Elvis impersonators and everything Elvis, you got it. The only thing is you have to find and travel to Parkes in New South Wales, Australia. But if Elvis is definitely your thing, which it looks like it is, then Parkes is a fantastic location to... ‘Parkes it like Elvis’.
So what is it going to be in 2013, fan or impersonator or both? It’s amazing how one man has had such an effect on the music industry, and on a town called Parkes. Elvis surely has been exhausted in every which way – the songs, the movies, the clothes, the girls, the moves. But when you thought you could not fit any more Elvis in, they did. Perhaps these Elvis fans and impersonators should think of something different to keep the ‘Elvis thang’ alive.
Calling all Elvis’, we’re having a meeting to determine each of our approaches to this year’s 2013 Elvis Parkes Festival. The overall theme is ‘Honky Tonk’, like a Honky Tonk woman or Honky Tonk burger – ‘You, you bring the Elvis suits, you bring the refreshments, you show the Elvis moves on the big screen, you bring some nice gals along, you think of some new Elvis moves, you play all the Elvis classics and think of a new version to Honky Tonk and you, well, just talk your talk and keep everyone happy. Perhaps we could come up with different versions of Elvis, like Snow White and the Seven Elvis’ – Belvis, Delvis, Telvis, Selvis, Kelvis, Welvis and Yelvis. That’s Yel-vis (Yell) for all the new Elvis’ popping up as if they grow on trees. Meeting adjourned people...you ready to ‘go Elvis’?
At the Festival, each group or family will have an Elvis leader who will guide and implement the Elvis activities for the day at the Festival. Everything will be recorded on camera and audio by each group and family to create a collage of Elvis experiences extravaganza. One of the best parts is the Elvis look- and sound-alike competition, I’m sure peoples’ favourite – ‘pick me’, ‘no, a-hah hah, pick me’. There will be the best and worst of the Elvis’, yes even the worst of them can get a prize too. We’ll bring Hypnotist Peter Powers and have an Elvis magical spell put on willing Elvis fans and impersonators; but aren’t these people already under the Elvis spell, not some more.
When the evening comes and the stars and stage lights brighten up the sunset sky, it’s time to do the Elvis boogie at the Elvis Rock ‘n Roll Boogie-Woogie Dance – ‘Thank you very much, thank you.’
