Buffalo native Jazz Pop artist Marcus Goldhaber recently released his third album “Almost Love” – a collection of 13 original tunes -; but instead of touring around the country to promote the new album, Marcus has headed to Off-Broadway to join the cast of “Wonderful Wizard of Song” with music from fellow Buffalonian Harold Arlen. The show includes such classic standards as “Stormy Weather”, “Come Rain or Come Shine”, “Let’s Fall in Love”, and the music from the award winning “Wizard of Oz”.
Currently in previews, “Wonderful Wizard of Song” begins January 10 at the St. Luke’s Theatre on 46th St. in New York City. The show includes stories and behind the scenes photos from Arlen himself.
“Wonderful Wizard of Song” is not the first theatrical production credit for Goldhaber; previously he has appeared in “The Pajama Game”, “Kiss Me Kate”, “Singing in the Rain”, thetribute show “My Way”, and the tribute show “I Left My Heart”.
Goldhaber’s original songs “As Long as I Am Falling in Love” and “A Walk” were featured in the award winning film “Going Down in La La Land”; and “I Fall Apart” is set to be a part of the upcoming film “How We Got Away With It”. Project Eleven – a remembrance of those lost in the 9-11 tragedy – has commissioned Goldhaber’s “Come Home America”; all proceeds from downloads of the song will go to Work Vessels for Veterans.
Goldhaber credits his grandparents and mother for instilling his love of music. Growing up in Buffalo, he learned the standards from his mother as she played on a 1928 upright piano. Goldhaber has parlayed that love into a career that has brought him to some of the biggest clubs in New York City.
