Nine people have killed and more than 20 were wounded after a charter bus belonged to Mi Joo Tour & Travel of Vancouver lost control on an icy highway and crashed into a guard rail in northeastern Oregon on Sunday morning, Dec 30 , authorities said, reports Los Angeles Times.
"We are continuing to try and confirm the total number of passengers and number of injured persons transported to area hospital or secondary locations due to severity of injuries."Oregon State Police said.
A preliminary investigation estimated about 40 passengers were on board the bus, which was heading home to Vancouver,, from Las Vegas, Nevada while the IDs of the victims still unknown.
The bus driver who survived the accident was rushed alongside 25 of the passengers to St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, five of them transported to other medical facilities and some of the injured were released after treatment according to hospital spokesman Larry Blanc.
"There are various types of injuries. Some of the injured were able to walk in on their own," We are taking a lot of CT scans and assessing the injuries" Blanc said
The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m (local time) on Interstate 84 east of the city of Pendleton , in northeastern Oregon.
