While they may be saving money on gas, Toyota Prius owners are also complaining about their vehicles. Lemon law firms are warning owners to be aware of the lemon laws in their state to know if they may have a claim.

On the 2012 Car Complaint Index, the Toyota Prius was scored as having the most customer complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Prius was also at the very top of the list for 2011.

The index is based on the ratio of the number of complaints received to the number of sales for each type of vehicle. While Prius owners are taking the time to register their complaints, the vehicle remains ranked as a best buy by some consumer publications. Perhaps Prius owners are simply more diligent than other car owners in sharing their stories.

Rounding out the top five most complaints were the Hyundai Sonata, BMW 5 Series, Kia Sorrento, and Lexus HS. The Lexus HS is also a hybrid vehicle.

It’s also possible that people are complaining about hybrids because the rougher ride of a hybrid vehicle is simply a difference from what people usually feel when riding in a car. Those who have never driven a hybrid will have a learning curve that could prove frustrating enough to want to complain.

If a new car is having repeat problems that cannot be solved, it may be considered a lemon. Lemon law firms say that if a new vehicle cannot be repaired by the dealer after a reasonable number of repair attempts, a case may exist.

Mark Oconnor and Steve Mikhov, product liability attorneys California, state that “If your vehicle is a lemon, you may be entitled to get your money back, a new replacement, or perhaps, a cash settlement.” http://www.omlawllp.com/ Reparations like that make it well worth the time and effort to check it out.

Lemon laws do vary by state, so it’s important to know just what the details for each individual state.

According to California lemon law, using an attorney to file a claim does not cost anything to the car owner. All expenses must be paid by the manufacturer if the consumer prevails.

People with multiple complaints about their vehicle might consider contacting a lemon law firm to see if they might have a case for returning or exchanging their vehicle.

The Prius has been getting complaints about brakes, acceleration, seats, speed control, electronic keys, air bags, electrical, even the sound system.

Toyota Prius owners may be dialing up their lemon law firm more often than most car owners in 2012.
