And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.

-- Gen. 37:1 (KJV)

The promise that God gave to Abraham was now being past down to his grandson Jacob. Jacob lived in the land that was promised to him by God. In life, it is important to live out the promises that God has given to you instead of listening to them or reading them without doing anything in order to have them become a reality for you.

Numerical Analysis: The numerical pattern for this verse is 1,2,3,7. (1) Follow God in order to have shelter. (2) Walk in God's kingdom in order to receive His promises. (3) Stay in the Spirit in order to receive His promises. (7) Be perfected by God in order to receive His promises.

Name Analysis: The name Canaan means "humiliated, subjection, merchant, servant." The Promised Land was the land of Canaan. Many people do not receive the promises of God within their life because they do not have the courage to dwell in Canaan. They cannot deal with the humiliation that arrives when they choose to obey God wholeheartedly. They cannot deal with subjecting themselves to God on a daily basis. They cannot deal with serving Him daily. They cannot deal with working on a daily basis. To obtain the promises of God, you will have to go through some things.
